Philanthropy
Fill The Boot
Sisters actively walked up and down a main intersection in Orange County with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to collect money for the MDA children. They had firemen boots to collect money in, because this is an annual charity event all the fire departments across the country do every year. Sisters were proud to help collect over $15,000 the event raised overall.
Dreams to Reality
Helping young girls figure out their futures at the Girl Scouts’ “Dreams to Reality” event, the sisters of Alpha Gamma Alpha happily assisted to communicate with the Girl Scouts of Orange County. Some sisters were college panelists, who answered questions and helped young girls understand what college is all about from a student’s perspective. The other sisters served as leaders in a game of LIFE. They helped the girls understand how the real world works with money, bills, families, etc. The sisters’ 6 hour participation at this particular event was influential due to the interaction with fun young girls who gained more knowledge about what lies ahead of them!
Orange County AIDS Walk
The annual aids walk in Orange County was a tough but exciting workout for the AGA girls! Arriving at 8 am, the walk took three hours but the dedicated and strong ladies kept through the 5K walk around the Anaheim Angels Stadium with a smile, due to the cause it was dedicated towards.
Roots
Sunday, November 9, 2008 @ 12:00 AM
Sisters of Alpha Gamma Alpha participated at the ROOTS Event at the Upper Newport Bay. Their participation included the installation of 1,370 native plants at the new Back Bay Science Center on Shellmaker Island. The purpose of this work was to help restore the native habitat of the area after construction of the new building. Species planted include: Encelia californica, Eriogonum fasciculatum, Salvia mellifera, Cleome isomeris, Artemisia californica, Rhus integrifolia, and Juncus acutus among others. Roots helps prevent certain plants from becoming extinct, and the sisters of Alpha Gamma Alpha love to help with keeping their communities greener and happier!
